Eastern North Pacific and Mexico and Baja California Peninsula (Alert)
On 7 August 2018, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NOAA) reported Hurricane John is located 320 miles south west of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico and 345 miles south of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, with strong wind gusts; it is expected to become a major hurricane tonight or early tomorrow. Chile
On 7 August 2018, the Chile Ministry of the Interior and Public Safety (ONEMI) declared a red alert in the Osorno Commune, Los Lagos Region, Chile due to a threat of an overflow of the Rahue river. Elsewhere, in the Araucania Region, 42 people were isolated in the Piren sector due to floods. Tropical Storm Kristy

On 7 August 2018, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NOAA) reported Tropical Storm Kristy is located 1,155 miles south west of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, with wind gusts of 50 miles per hour; Kristy could become a hurricane within the next two days. Venezuela (Update)
On 6 August 2018, media reported heavy rain and floods in the Amazonas State of Venezuela where more than 60,000 inhabitants and several homes were affected due to the overflow of the Orinoco and Caroni rivers.
