Caracas, 29 Sep. AVN.- Heeding President Nicolas Maduro's call, the Venezuelan people joined Sunday the National Plan of Dengue and Chikungunya prevention.
"Remember all that is very important to stop the breeding of mosquitoes that are vehicles of these diseases," he said through his Twitter account @NicolasMaduro.
The Staff of Health launched Sunday the second phase of the plan called 'People on the streets against Dengue and Chikungunya', across the country, in order to reinforce the actions and measures implemented by the government to address these viruses.
The Minister for Health, Nancy Perez spearheaded the launch of this plan at El Valle parish in Caracas, in the company of Municipio Libertador mayor, Jorge Rodriguez and organized communities of the sector.
"In Venezuela, we have been working to contain the vector, working in communities, making some contributions and spraying," said the minister.
She noted that this stage began in Aragua, Miranda, Barinas, Carabobo and Guarico states where there have been more cases of these viruses, and will remain until October 26, when the third phase starts.
She added that in order to reinforce the actions and the measures taken by the Staff of Health, a scheduled plan designed by the government will be distributed in all communities for residents to know what activities are to be carried out.
Besides El Valle, Caracas parishes San Pedro, Sucre, La Pastora and the Caracas-La Guaira highway, were also addressed on Sunday, where people with any of the symptoms of dengue and chikungunya were assisted.
Miranda and Vargas eliminate breeding sites
In Miranda state, regional health director, Marisela Bermudez, through a television contact, said the deployment was made in sectors La Virgen, Guatirito, El Tamarindo and Las Brisas, as well as the downtown Capaya, Campo Alegre, El Bosque, El Saman and El Cafe, "a prioritized area to attack these diseases."
"We are eliminating breeding sites, using abate (granulated powder that removes larvae and eggs of mosquitoes in stagnant water) and also spraying every house. We are making people aware of importance to eliminate breeding sites, throw away rubbers and bottles that are no longer useful, cover water containers. That is the message: to make people aware," she said.
In Vargas state, the plan began in Carlos Soublette parish, where health director, Yadira Castillo, reported by state media, that primary objective is to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in homes and community sectors, "then we'll spray in all areas. We will provide information about the virus ... we hope to raise awareness among the population about the steps to identify breeding areas to combat these viruses, which are everyone's problem."
Three municipalities were addressed in Aragua
Regarding Aragua state, authorities joined the plan that began in three municipalities of the state: Girardot, Zamora and Santiago Mariño, where more than 12 communities were fumigated with abate to eliminate the chances of germination of mosquito larvae in water tanks.
The regional health director, Luis Lopez said that "it is coordinated job with organized communities, members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), medical staff and employees of the Mission Barrio Adentro, "all are integrated as a team to defeat dengue and chikungunya."
Seven communities assisted in Carabobo
In Santa Rosa parish, a town of Valencia, Carabobo state, neighborhood communities Aquiles Nazoa, 810, Candelaria, Libertad, 24 Hours, Carmen Norte and Carmen Sur were assisted.
During the activity, authorities and organized communities carried out treatments such as weeding and spraying of areas where mosquito breeding sites were detected, while abate powder was poured into deposits of water (wells and pots) to prevent the development of mosquito larvae.
5,000 people deployed in Anzoategui
A total of 5,000 people were deployed in 21 municipalities of Anzoategui state, to conduct spraying and sanitation to combat these diseases.
"From today until next Sunday we will devote to work in sanitation and fumigation of Anzoategui state to contribute to this offensive against dengue and chikungunya, national guideline issued by President Maduro," said Governor Aristóbulo Isturiz.
In Barinas house by house visits were made
From a Barinas state sector, health secretary, Eugenia Sanabria said that numerous groups, formed by 20 people each, made house by house visits in different municipalities in the state to boost the campaign to prevent the virus.
She said that, once information and prevention campaign is completed, fumigation works will be made in priority sectors of Barinas state.
Plan for Portuguesa community
In eight of the 14 municipalities of Portuguesa state, a plan was launched to prevent the spread and ensure control of dengue and chikungunya.
In Guanare, Portugesa's capital, the campaign started in the Maisanta community with the volunteer work of community council and rank-and-file battle units Bolivar-Chavez (UBCh) to cut off the mosquito breeding cycles, collect debris and weed common areas of the sector where more than 250 families live.
