Highlights
EARTHQUAKE: Northern Chile was hit by an 8.4 magnitude earthquake, the largest recorded in 2015. 13 people died and more than 3,600 people were affected.
DROUGHT & FOOD INSECURITY: The El Niño phenomenon continues to intensify its effects of drought in the region. In Colombia, fire burned 77,300 hectares of forest and grassland. In Guatemala, the number of affected families has increased by 7,000 compared to 2014.
RAINS & FLOODS: Guatemala is affected both by drought and floods. Around 753 people have been affected by floods in the country. In Panama, authorities relocated 90 families and their houses were declared uninhabitable, and are being demolished.
